I like my new bunny suit

I was having dinner with my friend Tariq last night and he mentioned that this year, 2011, is mathematically pretty cool. Because if you add your birth year to your current age the total will come to 111. No matter what. So I did. I was born in 1980 and I’m 31. 80+31= 111.
You should try it.

Why am I sharing this? I don’t know. I like math, I guess. And the fact that all these random fun math things keep happening. Once every few hundred/billion years.

Maybe there’s not much to it, maybe we just read too much into it, maybe we make up the fine print as we go along.

Or maybe…… just maybe under the fabric of time and space, is a carefully constructed co-incidence machine. Which keeps springing these numbers/incidences at us.

Like me writing to my friend who I haven’t written to in months and getting an instant reply from her starting with “HOLY SHIT!!!! HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT!!! I was just writing to you.”

Or the fact that my mother and I always text each other at the same time.

Or the fact that the song I was thinking of, plays randomly when my iPod is on shuffle.

I could go on.

But I’ll stop.

Maybe, I’m reading too much into it.
It could just be happenstance.
Or it could be the fact that I read The Celestine Prophecy at a very impressionable age and have bought into the conspiracies of the universe to a degree where there is no coming back.
Or the fact that I like a little bit of wonder coming my way every now and then.

I’m not complaining. I’m just saying that it’s fun. And the practical side of me…… heck, there’s no practical side to me so I don’t have a counter argument.

Though, someday I’d like to know the truth. Even if it scars me
Till then, here’s to some mental math and 111 answers.

  1. I think you’re on to something! It’s like all those “coincidences” with me and music…that’s way too many of them for me to not notice. Time to watch Lost all over again.

Unless you were born post-2000. Then it totals 11. Which kinda implies that all you are doing is counting the number of years in this century, and maybe adding one more if you were born in the previous one.

In related news, I do too much maths in my head šŸ™‚

In even more related news, I’m that guy you want to avoid at parties…

  3. I follow Anusha.on Twitter n am wondering, what sort of an idiot would I be to never click on all the links she kept tweeting…. and then again, at home, tucked in and reading you… definitiely a coincidence machine! New Year is gonna be fun! #methinks
